Born in 1931, George Jones is one of the most infamous Country Music Icons in history. This true living legend continues to mesmerize fans on stage all throughout the Country. George was born in Saratoga, Texas. When he was a young boy he would sing for tip money on the street corners of Beaumont, Texas. By the time that George was 24 he had already been married twice and have served in the Marines.

One day while recording honky-tonk music in 1955 (for Starday Records), Pappy Daily (a producer) recommended to George that he just be himself and not try to imitate his idols like Lefty Frizell and Hank Williams. Well, George took him up on that advice and released the Country Music Hit "Why Baby Why". This was his first top five hit and was just a sign of things to come.

Back in the day, George Jones recorded music as "Thumper Jones". He also sang hit songs on a radio show. One particular day, George had the opportunity to play for his idol, Hank Williams! George still talks about special moment today. He said that he was so star struck that it was hard to even hit a not on his guitar.

In 1959 George Jones had his first #1 hit with the song "White Lightning." Then the #1 hits started coming one after another. "Tender Years", "The Race Is On", Walk Through This World With Me", and many, many more to follow.

Wildfire

Ok, lets start this off with a bang! Wildfire is a breathtaking, stomach dropping, multiple looping, high flying roller coaster that will test your thrill seeking limits.

The picture to the left is Wildfire in action. This roller coaster is nestled in the magestic Ozarks hillside. Stunning visuals with views that stretch for miles. This is one of those unforgettable rides that will leave you wanting to head straight back to the entrance to ride it again! If you have the nerves of course!

Wildfire reaches top speeds of 66 miles per hour, and midway through the adventure a camera will take your picture as you are shooting down a steep drop. The camera always seems to snap the picture when you have a look of terror (or smiles from ear to ear) on your face. You can purchase one of these photos as you leave the roller coaster. The pics are fairly affordable and they are a great way to capture those memories forever!

Powder Keg

Ever been shot out of a cannon? Ok, me neither, but I'm betting this ride will make you think that you have! Everyone gets in their seats, strap on their belts and await for this breathtaking ride to start. This isn't a roller coaster that slowly escalates to the top of the hill. You go from 0 to 53 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds. Ok, maybe you didn't let that sink in, so I'll say it once more. You go from 0 to 53 MILES PER HOUR in in 2.8 seconds! Can you say "G-Force"?

Powder Keg reaches top speeds of 64 miles per hour and is wild experience for kids and adults alike. You must be at least 42 inches to ride the Powder Keg.

There are several other roller coasters that are targeted and big kids and adults, but I think you get the picture here. Beautiful scenery, and breathtaking roller coaster fun at Silver Dollar City is the way to go!

Well, this park has so many attractions your only problem will be is figuring out which ones to do first, and which ones that your going to pass on (because you won't have enough time to do them all! After seeing Cathy Rigby star as Peter Pan for the last two seasons, it was a disappointment to see that she wouldn't be back in 2011. It is amazing to think that she will be turning 60 next year. She looks amazing, and it is still apparent that she is a former gymnast. She flies through the air (and over the crowd) with artistry and displays aerial ballet type moves that only a gymnast could pull off. She is very fan friendly and always came out after the shows to give the kids pixie dust and take pictures with her fans.

America's love affair with the passenger train ride lives on in Branson. The Scenic Railway travels through the majestic foothills of the Ozark Mountains. The train ride consists of a 45 minute round trip that takes passengers (you!) through tunnels, over trestles looking over the mountainside, and through southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. You travel through the wilderness, see wildlife, and through old communities that can now only be found on old railroad maps.

They have a dedicated fan base who keep coming back to Branson every year to see them perform at the Mansion Theater. The Gatlins will be performing at the Oak Ridge Boys Theater on selective dates in September and October. They also will be performing with Debby Boone at the Mansion Theater from November 1st to December 7th at the Mansion Theater. The Gatlin Brothers perform two hours of melodic harmonies, upbeat country, and heartfelt ballads. Larry Gatlin has a special talent of entertaining a crowd with his humor, great voice, and charismatic personality.

When you go to a Gatlin Brothers expect to be thoroughly entertained from beginning to end. If you love their hits like "Houston", "All The Gold In California", "Broken Lady", and "Don't Cry", then you will love this show. All in all they have 15 top ten hits, and they will be playing most, if not all of their hits along with new material that they have put out.

At the end of their show they will sign autographs. In years past they would tell the audience to stay inside the theater if they want to get autographs and have your pictures taken with them (rather than out in the lobby). SIX is a group of six brothers that you have to hear to fully appreciate the extent of their talent. What makes SIX stand out from other shows in Branson is that they create all of the music in their shows with their voices. There aren't any musical instruments whatsoever in their shows, yet it is one of the best music shows that you will ever see. View the video to see just a glimpse of what you will experience when you buy tickets to see their show. Definitely worth the price of admission to be sure!

As you just saw, they sound incredible, and can you believe that all of the music in the song came from their own voices? They sing many genres of music as well. They sing country, folk, barbershop quartet, pop, soft rock, and the blues. The video above doesn't give them justice. All "SIX" of the brothers have incredible voices and they all have a unique talent of turning their voice boxes into an entire instrumental band. The Hughes theater probably seats close to 1,500 or so, and I have been there when there wasn't a vacant seat in the house! Dinner show options are also available. You can eat dinner up in the balcony before the show, and the view is very good.

I work at the mansion and when big entertainers come to the Mansion and they are only performing for one or two nights, the shows usually sell out! Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Fights a Resounding Success at The Mansion Theater, in Branson, Missouri!

MMA Mixed Martial Arts and the Branson Fight Club have brought their fights to the Mansion Theater in Branson, Missouri. The event came about on short notice and very little advertising was done. Mostly by the word of mouth 1,100 people came out to see the fights.

Due to the successful showing at one of Branson's largest theaters more MMA fights are currently being negotiated along with upcoming boxing events in 2011.

Branson, Missouri is known for it live entertainment, and country music shows. However, there is a lot more to do than just that. After the shows are over, the nightlife in Branson is just beginning. There are plenty of bars, and nightclubs in Branson to keep the partygoers completely satisfied. Today, I am going to review some of the popular bars in Branson.

The Outback Pub - The Outback Pub is located right in the middle of the highway 76 strip, which basically puts you right in the heart of Branson. The Outback Pub is a bar that has a really nice atmosphere with bands performing six nights a week! They are also open on Sundays, and carry the NFL Sunday ticket. (approximately 12 different flat screen tvs!)

The bar has two floors with an Outside deck for people enjoy the beautiful Summer nights in the Ozarks. In fact from spring until fall they also have a band that plays outside on the deck. So all summer long there are actually two bands playing each night. Downstairs the bands usuall play blues or classic rock music. Upstairs the bands usually play modern rock outside on the patio. There is also a pool table upstairs and there is always a game going on!

Tsunami's Review - If you like dance club, techno music then Tsunami's is the bar for you. Nightlife at Tsunami's is catered to the younger crowd. They have a dance floor and it can get really wild! I have been to foam parties at Tsunami's. They have a foam machine that fills the entire dance floor with foamy bubbles about 4 feet high! Occasionally they have karaoke night. One night when I went to Tsunami's they were having "make your own bikini" night. The girls had to make their own bikini using whatever they could imagine. Some of the girls "bikinis" were made nothing but ummmm "bandaids", and I recall one that was made out of tin foil. Needless to say, it was quite an interesting night.

Ernie Biggs Reviews - Located on the Branson Landing, Ernie Biggs is a blast! This is a bar that is absolutely perfect for tourists, and crowd participation keeps you laughing and singing all night long. Ernie Biggs is a dueling piano bar. If you have a song that you want to hear, you write it down on a piece of paper and walk up and place it on the piano. The entertainers seem to know every single request no matter what it is! They usually play the songs that they know gets the crowd going! Back and forth the piano players duel back and forth.

As the night goes on, it starts to get crazy. The crowd sings a long, and they get particpants to get up on the stage. You never know what is going to happen. The only thing that you can be certain of, is that you are going to have some serious, side splitting fun! Nightlife on the Branson Landing is so much fun, and is a must stop if you like to have a good time.

Waxy O'sheas Reviews - Looking for an Irish Bar with great music, authentic Irish cuisine, and huge selection of Irish Beer? Waxy O'sheas is a really fun place to stop while your on the Branson Landing. The bands are great, the food is delicious, and there are two pool tables. Located right in the middle of the Branson Landing.

Old Chicago Reviews - Nightlife on the Landing is the best. There are at least six bars too choose from. Basically you can consider it a "Pub Crawl". Start on one end, and check them all out. Don't worry, there are plenty of cabs if you have had a little too much to drink! Old Chicago is a great sports bar, with excellent food. They carry the Sunday Ticket for all the football fans. They might even carry the baseball package as well. I am not 100 percent positive on this though.

Old Chicago has 110 different kinds of beer to choose from. You can take the "World Tour" and after you have one of each beer they check it off the list. The give you a World Beer Tour card and you get prizes as you try more and more different kinds of beer. You can only try three different selections on each visit. I think I am up to 24. Lots of great fun and great atmosphere. Old Chicago is sports bar thats perfectly acceptable for families of all ages. They have an outside patio for you to eat that is located right on the Taneycomo river.

Hillbilly Inn Karaoke Bar Review - If you love country music, and you love to karaoke, then the Hillbilly Inn is a bar that you will enjoy. Very laid back and located right on the strip.

Club 57 Review - Nightclub located right on the Highway 76 strip. This is the place where all of the Branson entertainers go to when their shows are over. The place really starts to get hopping at 11:00 PM when all the entertainers arrive and the bands start. It is very common for entertainers to get up on stage and play with the bands. It's not out of the ordinary to see Elvis, The Temptations, Willie Nelson, and The Blues Brothers all there on the same night mingling with the crowd, dancing on the floor, and partying the night away. Nice wrap around bar, and very comfortable seating. This is the one true night club located right on the main Branson strip.

If you are going to come to come to Branson and enjoy the nightlife. Regardless if your going to a bar or nightclub you should have your hotel room reserved in advance so there isn't a need to drink and drive. Take a cab and be safe! The Best Hotel If You Have Children

The Grand Country Inn - Splash Country

The Grand Country Inn is ideal if you have children. It is located right off the highway 76 main strip. It is quite convenient to all location and is only about 1/2 mile away from Walmart. What makes the Grand Country in so nice if you have kids is that it as a 20,000 square foot indoor water park! I have taken my child there in the past and we had an absolute blast. There are water slides, a lazy river floating pool, and a kiddie pool, and another pool where they play basketball in the water. It is attached right next door to the hotel. If you want to let the kids burn off some energy, while you site and relax reading a book, then this hotel is simply the best!

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, access to the water park is FREE if you are staying at the Grand Country Inn. There is also the Grand Country buffet right next to the hotel, along with a music theater, and a video arcade! Perfect for families with children! You could actually have a vacation without piling into the car one single time! Several other theaters and restaurants are within easy walking distance too!

There is also a something new at the Welk Resort called the splashatorium which apparently is another indoor water park located at the hotel, but I haven't had a chance to investigate yet, but I will in future posts. Silver Dollar City is located several miles outside of Branson. The Best Western is located right down the road from Silver Dollar City and has a shuttle service so you don't have to mess with the traffic and parking nightmare that accompanies the Silver Dollar City experience. The shuttle takes you right up to the front entrance. Otherwise you will have to drive in and find a parking spot. This can sometimes be difficult and you will end up having to walk to a shuttle pick up location. If Silver Dollar City is in your plans, the Best Western is definitely worth considering. I have been a local in Branson, Missouri for 20 years now, and tourists always want to know what are the best places to go to in Branson, Missouri. The answer to this question is usually followed by a question of my own. "What do you enjoy to do?" "Do you like going to the shows in Branson?" "Do you have kids?", etc... So to answer this broad, and general question, I can only give a broad and general answer. I will try to pinpoint this answer in a more particular fashion in future postings.

Silver Dollar City

When people think of Branson, Missouri the first travel destination that comes to mind is Silver Dollar City. Is Silver Dollar City one of the best places to go to in Branson, Missouri? Well, first of all Silver Dollar City is a wonderful place to go to in Branson. It grows larger every season, and new attractions are added each year. There is something to do for people of all ages, but it also has its limitations. What do I mean by limitations?

Silver Dollar City is an outdoor theme park, meaning that you are at the mercy of the weather conditions. This can be an issue to the elderly, infants, those in poor health, and for the everyday tourist that doesn't want to battle the heat, cold, rain, and even snow.
Silver Dollar City is very hilly and you will be doing a lot of walking.
Parking at Silver Dollar City can be challenging during peak periods of the season.

By no means do I discourage anyone of going to Silver Dollar City. "SDC" is one of the best theme parks in America without a doubt. Silver Dollar City has fabulous food, arts, crafts, scenery, roller coaster rides, and more. I want this blog to give honest reviews to the best places to go in Branson, rather than just a sales pitch. I will give a full detailed Silver Dollar City review in future posts. The Titanic - Amazing museum, with the largest display of artifacts from the actual Titanic in the world! The actors are amazing, and the exhibits are quite interesting. Probably not ideal for small children that may not be interested in the history of the Titanic.
White Water - White Water is a huge water park right off the main highway 76 strip. Huge water slides, wave pools, and lazy river floating pools to cool off during the hot summer days.
Music Theaters - Branson has dozen's of theater's and is considered to be the live entertainment capital of the world. I couldn't just name one here. I will review each theater in future posts. I can't really say which is the best, because music is relative to each person's taste in music of course. Country music is Branson's forte, but they also have wonderful pop, broadway plays, magic, and comedy shows to cater to everyone's personal tastes.
Lake Taneycomo - Beautiful lake located in Branson. Perfect for the avid fishermen, people who want to relax on the beach, and those wanting to take a relaxing boat ride. Boat rentals are available.
Shopping - For those that love Outlet Malls, Branson is the place to go. The red roof mall, Tanger Mall, and the Branson Landing provides one of the best shopping experiences that you can find anywhere! (I'm not much of a shopper, but when I go I couldn't imagine a better place to shop).
Showboat Branson Belle - Take a cruise on table rock lake, eat dinner, and see a show. Very popular attraction! One of the "must do" attractions in Branson.

Branson 2011 - Legends In Concert - Entertainers

The Legends In Concert

Branson, Missouri

The Legends in Concert Show in Branson, Missouri is always a must see attraction. There is an incredible amount of variety during one of their shows it is sure to please families of all ages.

I went to the Legends in Concert show last fall, and was very impressed. The show covered all bases and all of the entertainers were absolutely incredible. The show opened with a very true to form Alan Jackson impersonator. "Jackson" played many of his classics, wore the staple faded jeans, and was playing to the crowd using all of Alan Jackson's signature mannerisms. Next to Alan Jackson himself, I couldn't imagine a better impersonator representing the legendary Country artist.

For the younger generation, Brittney Spears was up singing and dancing to all of her pop hits. The beautiful impersonator really used her sex appeal to work the crowd up into a frenzy. She was a lot of fun and represented Brittney Spears quite well.

A Michael Jackson tribute entertainer was a site to see. At first I wondered to myself how he was going to pull it off. Well, let me tell ya, I wasn't disappointed at all. He had all of Michael's moves down to an art form. As he was gliding across the stage doing the moonwalk, it seemed to defy physics and was quite a treat to the visual senses. The end of his act was sensational when they performed Michael Jackson's hit "Thriller". The lights went out, smoke poured on to the stage, and then entire stage suddenly became the "graveyard scene" from the classic Thriller video. The "Thriller" dancers were unbelievable and the "zombies" took their dance out into the audience. Soon the entire theater was filled with zombie dancers dancing to Thriller.

The Blues Brothers put on a hilarious acts that had the crowd bent over in laughter. The impersonators for John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd were totally in sync. They brought so much energy to the show with their hilarious comedy, blues, and dance numbers.

"Young Elvis" ended the concert shaking, grinding, and putting on an incredible tribute to the King of Rock N Roll. Elvis really had the moves down, and he got the crowd up on their feet dancing, laughing, and having a wonderful time!

The Legends Concert in Branson has many other impersonators that perform throughout the year. Some other tribute entertainers include:

Every year something new happens in Branson and this year the Branson Landing is opening the "Promenade of Ice" on New Years Day. Branson is no long a spring through fall vacation destination. There are shows, museums, shopping, and now ice skating rinks open during the winter months.

The new attraction opens Saturday, January 1st on the Branson Landing. The Promenade of Ice will be open from 3-8 pm Mondays through Thursdays and 12-8 pm on Fridays through Sundays. The new ice skating rink will be open at the Landing through February 15th.

Ice skaters will pay $5 plus tax for 30 minutes and 10 dollars for one hour. Skate rentals will be available. The new ice skating rink is being brought to Branson by BH Skating Parks International.

"Promenade of Ice" uses a unique hybrid synthetic ice skating surface. The new rink will be eco-friendly because there wont be a need for expensive refrigeration units, generators, or electricity. The synthetic ice is made from a recyclable polymer compound.

So just because the Holidays are over, Branson is no longer slowing down to a standstill during January and February. More and more shows are now open year round with more attractions available for the winter traveler. So come on down, lace up the skates and check out the new ice skating rink located on the Landing.

With more than 100 unique shops and restaurants, shopping on the Branson Landing is definitely an enjoyable experience. Only a few years old, the Branson Landing lines the shore of beautiful Lake Taneycomo. Scenic views, department stores, specialty shops, dining for any occasion, and entertainment options provide a charming landscape for any shopping enthusiast.

In addition to the wide variety of shopping and dining options available at Branson Landing, one can also find exciting adventures at Branson Landing Cruises. Guests can jump aboard the Branson Lake Queen Paddleboat (a 100 ft modern day replica of the grand riverboats) or the Branson Landing Princess (a beautiful 100' luxury yacht), both cruising on the beautiful Lake Taneycomo. Cruises depart daily from Branson Landing's waterfront marina offering a variety of lake cruises from delicious lunch cruises to romantic dinner cruises and even offer historic narrated sightseeing tours and special event or holiday cruises.

Shopping on the Branson Landing can surely work up an appetite, and the Landing offers a vast amount of dining options for any occasion. I will review individual restaurants in future posts but here is a quick overview of some of the dining options available at the Branson Landing.

2011 Branson Tourism Guide

Nearly 10 million tourists visit Branson, Mo each year to vacation, fish, shop, and relax. Branson is home to 47 entertainment theaters, 405 restaurants, 205 lodging facilities, 10 golf courses, 3 outlet shopping malls, and three lakes. Sound slightly intimidating? How do you plan your vacation? What attractions will you see? Are there any lake activities? Where are the best places to fish? Unless you have been visiting Branson on a yearly basis for the past 20 years you won't be able to scratch the surface on what Branson has to offer. That's where I come in.

I have been living in Branson since 1993 and have employed in the entertainment industry (not a performer) for the past 18 years. I started out working as an usher at the Wayne Newton theater (now it is called The Mansion), went on to building maintenance for Andy Williams, worked the spot lights for Mickey Gilley, and have had various stage technician jobs at several other theaters. The entertainers in Branson tend to switch theaters like its a game of musical chairs. Every year in Branson comes with a whole new set of rules. If you plan on becoming a Branson tourist in 2011 let me be your guide and let me give you a few reasons why.

When you work in the entertainment industry in Branson you get to go to any of the shows in town for free. I have seen 100's of Branson shows and have many helpful tips to give Branson tourists to help their vacation to be as pleasurable as possible.

I know the best traffic routes to take to avoid traffic. If you have ever been to Branson in the middle of a busy tourist season you will know what I am talking about. I watch people sit in their cars while I'm zipping all around town on alternate traffic routes. I will give you secrets that only locals know. Ssshhh.

A healthy portion of your travel budget is going to be spent on lodging. If you want your vacation to wonderful and relaxing, then excellent lodging accommodations is very important! I will be giving advice about lodging recommendations as well.

Are you an outdoorsman? Like to fish? Branson has three lakes (Table Rock Lake, Lake Taneycomo, and Bull Shoals Lake), that are all very unique from one another. One is a trout lake, one is better suited for boating, one is better for fishing, one is great for bass, one is excellent for trout etc....

There are many other areas that I am going to cover in this Branson tourist guide. Without this guide you will be relying on pamphlets from marketers trying to get a piece of your money. Sure their ads will seem real appealing, but if you want an honest guide about Branson then make sure that you bookmark this site. 2011 is going to be a great year for Branson and tourism is about ready to begin very shortly. Make sure that your vacation is properly planned and your prepared in advance!
